How do I know which model is right for me?
We would recommend calling us to discuss this over the phone. We have several questions to ask that will help us to help you decide which model is best suited to you and the type of riding you’ll be doing.
Which model is the easiest to learn on and which is the most difficult?
Typically, for most adults, the T8 is the easiest to learn on and the T12 Roadster the most difficult. There are two reasons for this:
(i) the T8 is significantly lighter than the T12 (20lbs vs. 30lbs) and
(ii) the T8 foot platforms are only 9” off the ground, vs. a 13” step-up to the T12. Is that such a big deal? Well, for a tall and lean person it’s not, but for someone who is short and maybe a little heavier, the 13” step-up to the T12 is really significant when pushing-off.
Rubber tires or polyurethane wheels - which is easier to learn on?
There are several variables determining this, for instance ...What sort of surface will you be riding on? How determined are you to learn to ride? We can cover these and other questions if you call us for help with your purchasing decision.
How long do the rubber tyres or poly wheels last?
Generally the tyres or wheels on a Trikke will take you several hundred miles before they need replacing, but it will depend on your riding style. If you’re a casual rider then naturally your tyres or wheels will last longer than for a regular, more aggressive rider that likes to get down and carve deeply.
Why can’t I manage eve a slight incline on my Trikke?
It’s all about timing and technique. The smaller inclines may prove difficult in the first few rides, or maybe longer. It takes tome to really become proficient at Trikke riding; the more you ride the easier it gets. Stay determined and if one technique doesn’t work for you then try another. Is there a limit to how steep a hill I can climb on my Trikke?
Yes, there is a limit and it will be different for each person. You will be able to climb some really steep hills if you’re in shape and have your timing and technique down.
How far is the average ride on a Trikke?
It varies of course, but we’d say the average rider riding 2 or 3 times a week on a regular basis will ride between 8 - 15 miles each time. There are some who can manage 30 or 40 miles, but they probably have a lot of time on their hands!
What kind of workout do I get?
The Trikke offers one of the best workouts you can get. It’s a very low-impact workout for muscles and joints - a great way to get and stay fit. You’re simply moving along in rhythm with your lower and upper body, and working out everything in between. It’s also a great weight-loss product, burning hundreds of calories per hour. Does the Trikke provide a good cardio-vascular workout?
Absolutely! The quality of your workout will depend on the amount of effort you put into your ride but for most a moderate pace on the Trikke gets the cardio-pulmonary system working at an appropriate and safe level. You should consult with your doctor if you have any health issues, questions or concerns about the Trikke and your workout routine.
Why choose a Trikke over a bike?
It’s a matter of preference. We won’t be so bold as to make the statement that the Trikke is the only way to go; it all depends on what you’re looking for in a human powered vehicle.
Should I wear a helmet or any other safety equipment?
YES! Just as with any vehicle you ride, we strongly recommend that you wear the proper safety gear on your Trikke. A standard cycle helmet at minimum, but some riders go the extra step and wear elbow and knee pads.
Has anyone ever been injured riding a Trikke?
Yes, just as with any mode of transportation there are risks and there will always be injuries. It’s up to you to know your limitations and to wear the proper safety equipment to minimise the impact of any accident. It’s also your responsibility to read the Owners Manual and watch the DVD that’s supplied with your new fitness machine, in it’s entirety!
What maintenance is required?
The pneumatic wheels are high pressure / low volume and it will be necessary to check the air pressure every 7 or 10 days. All Trikke models will require periodic lubrication.
How long is the warranty?
All Trikke models come with a 12 month warranty against manufacturer defects.
Why am I having trouble folding and unfolding my Trikke?
It’s important that there is zero or neutral pressure between the pin in the leg and the hole in the extension arm when folding or unfolding your Trikke. In other words, no side-to-side pressure or up-and-down pressure.
